Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is NBC's Monday night prime-time hit, based on the drama of a long-running Friday night sketch comedy show on the fictional NBS network. In the airing of it's pilot episode, the new show brought to light a lot of controversy on politics, culture, religion, television, free speech and censorship. Creator and producer Wes Mendell (Judd Hirsch) knows that the show has become a stale, unfunny shadow of its former self, and during a live broadcast, he interrupts the opening sketch about President Bush and goes off on a rant, criticizing the network and their shows about eating bugs and becoming Donald Trump, and broadcast standards and practices. This pretty much guarantees his firing from boss Jack (Steven Weber), who orders new NBS president Jordan McDeere (Amanda Peet) to come up with a solution to fix the show. "We're all being lobotomized by the country's most influential industry, which has thrown in the towel on any endeavor that does not include the courting of 12-year-old boys. And not even the smart 12-year-olds, the stupid ones, the idiots, of which there are plenty, thanks in no small part to this network. So change the channel, turn off the TV. Do it right now..." said TV writer/producer named Mendell (Hirsch) in his already-famous meltdown monologue that kicks off the first episode. In this TV show about TV, the characters, including incoming writer Matt Albie (Matthew Perry) and director Danny Tripp (Bradley Whitford), will struggle with the desire to protect the original vision of Studio 60, contending, "In a world where free speech is allowed, you're going to offend people." Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (NBC) airs Mondays at 10 p.m. (ET/PT) and re-airs Wednesday nights on Bravo. related links About Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip Studio 60's Fan Site About National Broadcasting Company (NBC) NBC's Official Website |
